City Mark |
The City Mark has been simplified and graphically designed from
the first
character of the city name Nagano. It represents the new image
of a large city
with high social standing and its symbolic of Nagano City making
rapid
progress in harmony and cooperation with its future citizens.
(City Mark
established in May,1967)
City Tree
The Shinanoki tree used to grow everewhere around Nagano City.
Now, however
its found in lesser numbers. Long ago, its bark was used as a
textile because of its strong
fibres. It is believed that the tree is the origin of the name
'Shinano' - the old
name for Nagano Prefecture. Thusly, thi tree was established as
the city's tree.
Living in a city with the rich history and cultural
heritage passed on from the old province of Shinano,
we, the citizens of Nagano City,
with a love of nature and culture,
ask for peace on earth.
We strive to live our lives with respect for all
mankind as citizens of the world,
in order that we may confidently stride toward a
richer, more prosperous future.
The majority of Shinshuu apples, which came from China many years
ago, are
cultivated in an area around Nagano City called Zenkooji-Daira.
As a memorial to
the 90th anniversary of the city, its flower has been established
as the city's flower.
(Established in April,1987)
