This year the city will have its 100th anniversary, and in 1998,
nagano will have the honor of hosting the eighteenth Olympic Winter
Games and the seventh Winter Paralympic Games.
For these events, the city is working hard on improvements, such
as building Olympic facilities, roads, waterworks, and parks.
Nagano City, with a population of over 360,000 holds a key position
as a major city in this area. Our aim is to make Nagano an "international
city where the world gathers to make a jump to the future," and
so we are working to make Nagano City an easy city in which to
live and work. We are building an international perspective. We
are working to protect and develop our natural environment. We
are also making the city more accessible to the eldery and disabled;
in short, trying to make the city as comfortable and convenient
a place as possible.
Further, as we enter the information age, we plan on developing
contacts throughout the prefecture, country, and the world via
the internet and other multimedia resources.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our homepage, and for your
support, as we take Nagano City into the next century.
